KIM LAIDLAW

THE SOUPTERVIEW: KIM LAIDLAW, FREELANCE WRITER
AND FOUNDER OF THE CITY GUIDE "UNLOCK PARIS",

LUPA FIASCO, FULL-TIME DOG,

PARIS.

What makes you happy?
Kim: Little things: lie-ins with my man, my dog and the newspaper; walks with my dog on crisp sunny days; cuddles with my dog (are you spotting a theme?)
Lupa: Jumping in leaves and jumping on the human bed.

What is your best quality?
Kim: I’m hilarious.
Lupa: I’m incredibly affectionate

Your best flaw?
Kim: I do love a good moan.
Lupa: Ooh, me too!

What is your favorite food? Drink?
Kim: I love an Ispahan from Pierre Hermé, washed down with cold champagne or a nice smoky tea (a pot of lapsang suchong would do the trick). Also partial to a matcha latte but that makes me sound like a dick.
Lupa: Peanut butter and banana—it’s like canine crack.

How would you define your personal style?

Kim: Contemporary Classic, which is my way of saying boring and making it sound chic.
Lupa: I’m going to say Contemporary Classic, too.

What are you addicted to?
Kim: Avocadoes, the BBC (but mostly for EastEnders so don’t get any ideas about me being highbrow), tea, my dog and—I’ll admit it—my sodding iPhone!
Lupa: Cuddles.

What supernatural talent would you like to be gifted with?
Kim: Teleportation. Then I could travel all round the world in the blink of an eye.
Lupa: The power of speech. Which I do actually have but all you hear is “woof, woof, woof”.

Your favorite soup recipe:

Kim: I like to whack whatever veggies I have in a saucepan, let them sweat it out a bit, then add stock and maybe some lentils, spices or some herbs from the balcony and then let it all simmer away… That’s what’s so great about soup: it’s versatile, easy and restorative—and it’s different every time (or at least it is when I make it!). My current favourite is carrot and red lentil with a pinch of curry powder. Served with lots of multi-grain bread slathered in salted butter. Souper douper! (sorry).

Lupa: I do like it when my dog biscuits fall in my water bowl—does that count?

YOUR IDEA OF SLOWNESS

Kim: Taking a day off and savouring every second.
Lupa: I like to stand completely still in a ray of sunshine.
